John is a nationally certified coach, university instructor, trainer, and author of the Aug. 2017 book, CAREER JUDO-The Martial Art for the Mindful Career from Balboa Press. His private coaching practice has offices in Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL.
John is blessed to be married to his soul mate and resides in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Jacksonville, FL, after 16 years in the incredible city of Atlanta, GA. His interests involve human rights, animal rights, social justice, positive psychology, the minimalist movement, and Judo. He is originally from Upstate New York and now divides his time between the beautiful southern cities of Atlanta and Jacksonville.
John has completed an educational specialist (ED.S.) degree in educational and counseling psychology, as well as a master of science (M.S.) degree with a concentration in career development. His graduate studies spanned coursework in psychology, counseling, career development, and coaching. In addition, John holds a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree in liberal arts, with depths of study in psychology and communications.
John's professional credentials include: Board Certified Coach (BCC), Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP), Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF), Certified MBTI Practitioner, and qualified Strong Interest Inventory Practitioner. He coaches students and clients using a strengths-based approach blended with elements of positive psychology (PPsy) and solution focused change.
John has a passion for positive psychology! He has studied PPsy for several years and he infuses it into his coaching, teaching and personal life. Listed below are key experiences which formed the foundation of his knowledge and training surrounding applied positive psychology.
June 20, 2014: Presenter at the National Career Development Association’s 2014 Global Conference in Long Beach, CA. Presentation #304 Positivity – A Powerful Fusion of Career Development and Positive Psychology. Deliver career services with greater impact through applied positive psychology. Teach clients how to create habits of happiness to infuse positivity into their career development action plan.
Fall 2012 & Spring 2013: John completed advanced graduate coursework (ESCP 7200: Positive Psychology and ESCP 8200: Applied Positive Psychology) through the department of educational, school and counseling psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Education. These courses were under the supervision of Joe Johnston, Ph.D.
April 2009: John completed the Positive Psychology Immersion masterclass sponsored by MentorCoach. This 8-week class was led by (the late) Christopher Peterson, Ph.D., a leading figure in the positive psychology arena.
